Knife crime is a terrible scourge in London and elsewhere.  We cannot begin to solve it without engaging with those involved and understanding their background.  That is a huge challenge.  SMCCT, which receives no government funding, works with vulnerable children and young people in five wards of the London Borough of Camden where 28% of them live in poverty and is a unique service offering them a safe place to go 24/7 365 days a year.  It works on the streets and in estates where they live, supports young people leaving prison, provides help with careers and social enterprise, runs residentials and leisure activities and provides mentoring.  The personal commitment and dedication of the Youth Manager and his Support Youth Workers to their work, which is for the benefit of us all, is truly remarkable.  Elizabeth helped to set up SMCCT 12 years ago as a charity independent of the church of which she is a member and our wish is that our celebration will help its work not only to continue but to expand.
