Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Losing a bit of excess weight is a New Year’s resolution for many, but as Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, losing up to two stone will also gain pounds for my chosen charity, The Royal British Legion.

I am appealing for people to sponsor me for every half a stone I lose by the end of my term in office this May and have a target of two stone.

A healthy-eating plan which restricts my food and drink intake to 1,500 calories per day, exercising on my cross-trainer at home and walking more will be the main ways I set out to lose the weight.

I currently weigh nearly 15 stone but will be going for my first official weigh-in on Monday 9 January.

I went to my doctor’s surgery before Christmas and was told that my ideal weight should be 11 and a half stone. I knew I was a bit overweight but it was very sobering to be told that my current weight makes me more at risk of heart disease and diabetes.

It’s going to be tough as I get offered lots of cakes and rich food on my engagements but I am determined to reach my goal not only for the sake of my health but also to raise money for my charity.

I hope to continue my weight loss once I achieve my initial target of two stone so that I reach my medically ideal weight of 11 and a half stone.
