Story
Our eldest son, Josh, was born with a relatively rare condition whereby the plates in his head fused early, restricting the growth of his skull and causing pressure on his brain. It is difficult to say how he would have ended up if he hadn't received the amazing care which he got at Birmingham Children's Hospital but it is fair to assume that he wouldn't be the happy little boy he is today. It's thanks to the team of surgeons and nurses who completely remodelled his skull (check out the photo!) that Josh is leading a normal life with his brother and sister. And we all want to say thank you to Birmingham Children's Hospital.
So what is this Coast to Coast all about? It's fairly well-worn path across the north of England, so we thought that we would do something a little different. For starters, we are going to cycle across England in a day. Yes, 200km in 24 hours and, as if that wasn't enough, we are going to do it off-road (well, a huge chunk of it anyway). First we are going to climb up to the foot of the Cumbrian Mountains, then we are going to leave roads and tracks behind to cross those mountains just north of the mighty Skiddaw before skirting Ullswater to rejoin the road network. Then it's across the Pennines - off-road and across the moors - until we duck into Weardale for a last section of road and track to the sea just south of Sunderland. Its's going to be epic.
