Story

The team; Imran, Joe, Josh, Terry & Toby have over 25 years of friendship, but varying levels of cycling experience ranging from ‘I previously completed a London 2 Paris ride’ through to ‘I had a bike when I was a teenager.’

As we're all hitting 40 within the next year and it’s a rare occurrence to have us available as a collective, this endeavour seemed to a perfect opportunity for us to reunite and experience a beautiful and exciting adventure together.

With just seven weeks between initial suggestion of the trip and the first days riding, we’ve pulled together to complete a challenge met with trepidation by much more experienced cyclists. Our health and fitness levels range from ‘in the best shape of my life’ to ‘I had my full colon removed 9 months ago and I’m adjusting to life with an ileostomy’.

We'll be heading up to Whitby on the 20th July and riding for three days:

21/07 - 85.7km 1403 meter climb
22/07 - 124.7km 1869 meter climb
23/07 - 90km 1151 meter climb
A total of 300km and 4473 meter climb.

Bearing in mind the height of Ben Nevis is 1344m and the total height of the three peaks challenge is 3000m, this is a significant undertaking!

All of this will be made easier for the fact we've chosen to support Friends of Mutake School. The charity works directly with Mutake School near Harare, Zimbabwe. The school has over 1200 primary aged pupils and has only within the last month gained access to running water. There is currently no school kitchen, no library, and children feel genuine excitement in receiving a pencil and a writing book - these are luxury items to them. Knowing that collectively we can help improve the lives of children who want nothing more than to live, learn and be happy will make the tricky climbs easier.

About the charity

FoMS is set up to sponsor a child to attend school in Zimbabwe. Poverty and illness mean many can't afford the fees to go to school. £5 a month allows a child to have everything they need to go to school and supports medical need where necessary. We aim to make their learning environment better too
