Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We've reached our original target of £500 so have raised it to £650! Thanks for your fantastic support - every penny goes to amanikids.org, a fantastic cause.
We (Cathy, Karen and Lynda) are taking part in Amani Tanzania's 20th anniversary Virtual Kilimanjaro Climb by walking 60 miles of the North Yorkshire Coastal Path over 5 days from August 28th - September 2nd. (Other participants will be 'climbing' Kilimanjaro in a variety of ways. Covering the 60 miles distance is the requirement).
We would greatly appreciate your support with this challenge to spur us on our way but more importantly to support the children cared for by Amani Centre for Street Children in Tanzania.
Any amount you can donate will be hugely appreciated. If we raise over £200 (and reach the 'summit') , our total will be match-funded out of a maximum match-funding pot of £3000! Please help us to achieve the maximum we can. Thank you!
More information about Amani Centre for Street Children, Tanzania
Amani was established in 2001 by Tanzanians who were concerned about the growing number of street children due to the HIV-AIDS epidemic. It started in a humble three-room, rented home. Today, Amani is considered one of the leading organizations caring for street children in East Africa. This year we will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary at the culmination of the virtual Kili climb with an online international event on October 2nd - watch this space! (details will be posted on this page nearer the time.)
Amani now has three bases - in Moshi, Arusha and Singida. They provide outreach to children living on the streets, building trust and encouraging children to come to the safety of the centres. They provide the children with warmth, shelter, good food , education, fun and love. They allow children to be children and see the transformation in young lives. Where possible, with the input of Amani's team of social workers, they support children to be reunited with family members and provide ongoing support and monitoring. There are many many success stories - come to the event on October 2nd to hear more or visit the website :
Amani Children’s Home – Moshi, Tanzania (amanikids.org)
In 2020 Amani reached 654 children on the street, 189 children were rescued from the streets, 282 children were provided with safe shelter and education, 158 children were reunited with family and their communities and 256 children received ongoing educational support in their communities or elsewhere including 10 ex-street children at university. What an achievement!
Amani also is a recognized national leader in promoting children’s rights and is regarded by the Government of Tanzania as an example organization and as a learning site for its social workers.
Thanks to the ongoing support of international donors and monthly sponsors, Amani has grown substantially. Today we help 750+ children a year and employ over 100 highly committed Tanzanian staff.
