Story
The Cognition Foundation is an initiative we have set up to give something back to the community, help people in need and assist worthy causes. Through our own efforts and your support, we will use the foundation to raise and share as many funds as possible.
Supporting the Fight Against Cancer
More than one in three us will develop some form of cancer during our lifetimes, according to the NHS. And, even if we’re lucky enough to avoid the condition, cancer will affect us through family or friends.
For this and many personal reasons within the team at Cognition, this year we have chosen to help fund the fight against cancer by supporting the Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Centre (CIIC) at the University of Birmingham and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
CIIC is a collaborative grouping of around 30 academic and clinical research groups collectively focused on developing internationally outstanding basic tumour immunology research and translating key discoveries into improvements in cancer treatment.
Run & Bike Challenge
Leamington to London
Paul Houston and the aptly named Billy Miles are putting on their running shoes to raise funds for CIIC. The dynamic duo will be running a distance greater than five marathons from Royal Leamington Spa to London.
Their 148-mile route will follow the path of the Great Union Canal, and will be interspersed with various real ale refreshment stops along the way.
Give them a wave and some encouragement if you see them between May 31 and June 3 and please don’t forget to add some financial support here.
Around the same time, two other Cognition team members, George Perry and Ed Plant, are getting on their bikes for the cause. The pair are going to use pedal power to cycle along A-roads from Leamington to the capital and back again. The aim is that the bike boys will meet up with the marathon men in our London office to exchange tales of their feat (if not their feet!).
Other activities
Among the other fund-raising events, the team will be holding many charity events over the coming months/years. So, watch this space...
Your Donations
You can make donations through the CIIC JustGiving page we have set up. This includes the Gift Aid facility that allows UK charities to reclaim an extra 25% in tax on every eligible donation made by a taxpayer.
For donations by cheques, they should be made payable to “QEHB Charity” and have CIIC written on the back or money can be paid directly into a bank.
The charity bank details are Barclays Bank, QEHB Charity, sort code 20-07-71 and account number 83304124. CIIC-Cognition should be used as a reference. We have gift aid forms available for anyone making personal donations through cash or cheque.
Any companies wishing to donate directly can be issued with receipts. Just let us know what you would prefer.
