Story
Greeting to the Cohort of 2000-2001.
Twenty years ago we were nearing the end of our JVC year. Quite a year it was—among other things I recall visiting the DC JVs in January and standing for several hours in 35-degree rainy weather in the “protest zone” on Pennsylvania Ave to watch newly-elected President Bush drive to his inauguration.
My year in Raleigh with the Farmworker Unit of Legal Services of NC was a very important one in my life, leading me in the short term to law school. The retreats we had during the year planted slower growing, but even more important, seeds: eight years later I became a Jesuit myself. I’m back in DC, and back protesting, leading the Jesuit Conference Office of Justice and Ecology.
I’m proud to be serving on the JVC board, along with 7 other FJVs. Many thanks to those of you from the 2000-01 class who have supported the mission of JVC over the years. For those who haven’t stayed engaged, we’d love your support to help ensure that young people continue to have this same opportunity.
Will you join us by adding your name to the list of supporters of JVC? Let’s show up as the class of 2000 and show the class of 2021 we stand with them!
