Story
My wife Annette was diagnosed with breast cancer back in April 2016 and the Lilac centre along with Whiston and St Helens hospital cared for her through two years worth of treatment.
Although she went through gruelling surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy her main concern was the loss of her hair and identity. When having chemotherapy, she was offered the use of a cold cap machine in an attempt to save some of her hair which she decided to do. Annette went through ten four hour sessions of the cold cap enduring -10 degree temperatures.
Annette's determination and strength totally inspired us all, but she sadly lost her battle to breast cancer in February 2018. Now it’s my turn to experience the cold, I will be attempting the Windermere 11 mile swim www.windermereoneway.co.uk in memory of Annette, in an attempt to contribute towards the purchasing of one of these units.
This process helped Annette and we would like more women to be given this opportunity but each machine comes at a large cost of £15,000.
Any donations large or small will be largely appreciated. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every individual from the Lilac centre and supporting teams for the amazing jobs they do in the fight against cancer.
Many thanks
Antony xx
