Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon · 6 May 2013 ·
Siobhan Thompson, John Whyte and I have entered to run the Belfast Marathon, and in the process help a local charity.
As there are so many worthwhile and needy charities in Northern Ireland this was a difficult decision, however we have decided to raise much needed funds for Cancer Focus NI and this is where we need your help and support.
Cancer Focus NI (previously called the The Ulster Cancer Foundation)
Cancer Focus NI believes research is key to preventing, detecting and treating cancer. There is little government contribution towards cancer research in Northern Ireland, but since 1974 they have invested more than £10.5m to research at Queen's University Belfast and the University of Ulster. Their Cancer Research Centre at Belfast City Hospital and sponsored lectures underpin this work and bring the latest developments worldwide to Northern Ireland.
One in three people will be diagnosed with cancer and one in five will die from the disease.
Please help them to drive forward improvements in treatment and care for cancer patients.
We will be running this marathon not just to fulfill a personal goal but for all our loved ones, family members and friends whose lives have been affected in one way or another by cancer.
For all the people who have lost their lives because of cancer, who are fighting cancer and for all the people who have bravely fought cancer.
I know it’s a difficult time financially, but please spare whatever you can. 2p, 10p, 50p, £1, £5, £10 it doesn’t matter, every penny helps J
