30/09/2002 our lives changed forever .. I lost the love of my life & Rachel lost her mentor, her hero, her Dad .. All our family & friends knew what had happened to Pete .. For all those new "Facebook Friends" we have met along the way, who do not.. This is his story .. Peter had a fall from the quayside in Brixham where he was a Trawlerman .. He was landing the catch as he always had thousands of times over. This day was different .. Peter fell from the quay backwards landing on the back of his head on the steel deck below, causing horrific head injuries ... Peter was transferred from Torbay hospital to Derriford to the specialised Intensive Care Unit.  Spending those 8 days in Derriford ICU with Pete talking to him, bathing him, reading to him I was made aware of how much love, care, respect he was given .. I was also made aware that for every day he was there it was costing £2000 for the nursing staff 24/7, just to be in that bed .. There were 6 beds in that room & people were having to be turned away because it was  full with desperately ill people. Some survived & some did not .. When I was given the option to end Pete's life by switching of the life support system that was keeping his BODY alive. I took a moment .. I wasn't ready, I wasn't prepared but I made that decision with the help of my then 14 year old Darling daughter Rachel, as she asked the questions .. IF Dad survived would he know us? would he come home? The answer from the Neurologist was NO & that he would probably remain in a vegetative state for as long as his organs would keep working ..  Well you all know the outcome of that. Rachel & I want to return to this unit & face the past to put closure to that time BUT we would like to make our return really matter .. Therefore we humbly ask that if anyone who would like to help keep a bed going for someone else or to help buy much needed equipment for this AMAZING unit .... PLEASE just donate £1 for Pete on his 13 yr  remembrance .. Thank you XX
