Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Having been horrified by the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire and inspired by those risking their lives to help others, I want to do what I can to help. So I have decided to offer my Edward Barder Merlin rod in order to raise money for the London Fire Relief Fund run by the British Red Cross Society.
The Merlin was handmade in split cane by world renowned rod builder Edward Barder and was originally owned by Jon Edy-Berry, author of books such as 'Beneath the Black Water' and 'A Can of Worms'. Jon used the rod to catch some cracking barbel up to 12lb 10oz. I have had the rod for 6 or 7 years and despite using it sparingly, it has landed me several large Kennet chub.
The rod has a market value of around £2000 - but it could be yours for a fraction of that price.
ADDITIONAL PRIZES
As of Monday 3rd July we have a second and third prize up for grabs. 2nd prize will be an Allcocks Match Aerial centrepin reel, whereas 3rd prize will be a box of floats. Both of these have been donated by Matthew Minter.
£20 will entitle you to 1 ticket in the raffle I am organising, with the Merlin Rod being awarded to the holder of the winning ticket. The 2nd and 3rd tickets drawn will win the Allcocks reel and box of floats respectively. The draw will be made by an independent source on Friday 21st July at midday. If you choose to take part and donate please email colinculley@tiscali.co.uk with your full contact details. Arrangements can then be made for collection of the rod and other prizes.
