Crossroads Lewis is a registered charity providing regular carer respite to those caring for a loved one at home. Our aim is to value carers, to give them time to themselves e.g. to attend appointments, socialise or rest. Crossroads helps to prevent carers from becoming ill through exhaustion.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have decided to sign up for a Skydive from 10,000 feet on 22nd March.

It's all booked and paid for, and I thought it might be a good opportunity to raise some much needed funds, but more importantly, raise awareness for a charity which has done a great deal for our family.

As some of you may know, my granny, Katie Ann Smith, passed away aged 97 in March last year after a period of ill health. She was fortunate to have received fantastic care from a number of nurses and organisations Crossroads’ carers were at the heart of that for a period of about 5 years. Their companionship and conversation always brought a smile to gran’s face.

This was our second experience of the compassionate care provided by Crossroads Lewis as 'Granny Barvas' Effie Morrison from Upper Barvas, who passed away two years ago, had also received regular visits from their carers during her last illness some years before.

If I'm jumping out of a plane it makes sense that a worthwhile cause like Crossroads should benefit from it!

Crossroads Lewis supports approximately 50 carers and service users on a weekly basis.  They provide home support to carers regardless of age, disability or illness and to those living alone, struggling with ill-health or loneliness.  They also provide a valued Palliative service at home.

Their service is personalised, responds to individual circumstances, and supports carers to maintain their caring role.  They aim to prevent carers becoming ill through exhaustion by giving them a break while providing the care they normally give – including palliative cases. Those living alone are given companionship, helped to avoid isolation and encouraged in independence – all important in a rural area. By preventing further stress and illness, unnecessary hospital or residential care admission is avoided and service users find encouragement and the will to carry on.

I would like to do what I can to support them with some much needed funds to keep the service running in the community, and I'll keep you all updated on the jump after it happens!

Remember - ALL of the money pledged will go to Crossroads Lewis.
