We are taking part in a 10,000ft skydive on September 20th 2020 to raise much needed funds for The Children’s Medical & Research Foundation at Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
The reason we are doing this is because Colin’s nephew Kian was born on 4/3/2020 in the Rotunda hospital and was transferred to Crumlin hospital urgently the next day and shortly afterwards a biopsy confirmed that Kian was born with Hirschsprung’s disease.
Hirschsprung's disease (HD or HSCR) is a birth defect in which nerves are missing from parts of the intestine. Hirschsprung's disease occurs in about one in 5,000 of newborns.
Treatment of Hirschsprung's disease consists of surgical removal (resection) of the abnormal section of the colon, followed by reanastomosis.
Kian’s parents Mark and Melissa spent almost 4 months manually washing out Kians bowel twice daily until he had his surgery on July 10th. Kian is well on the road to recovery already and he is making great progress every single day. The team in Crumlin were amazing at the time of the surgery providing care and support to Kian as well as Mark and Melissa and continue to do so during his recovery.
Lynda’s brother Shane who sadly passed away in March was also a patient in Crumlin as a child and he was looked after so well at the time and we are so happy to be able to support them in his memory.
This is our way of giving something back.
