Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

I'm racing the Berlin Marathon in September, 2018, and I'm doing it as a fundraiser for Parkinson's UK. My fastest marathon so far has been 2:38:52, run this past June, and I'm training hard to try to improve that in Berlin. While training for a marathon might be hard work, it's still a lot easier than living with Parkinson's Disease.

I performed all of my doctoral research in the field of Parkinson's Disease treatments, and in my postdoctoral work, I study new applications and mechanisms of deep brain stimulation, a treatment commonly used for later-stage Parkinsonism. When I saw that Parkinson's UK was an official partner of the Berlin Marathon, I decided that this would be a great way to combine my marathoning with my strong desire to see improvements in the way Parkinson's Disease is treated. Unfortunately, it isn't cheap to perform medical research, and I would urge you to give generously to Parkinson's UK, a great charity that funds really critical work. Thanks for your donation, and thanks for following my training as I build up to what I hope will be my fastest marathon yet!
