Trek to Machu Picchu · 18 May 2017

Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 10 million people who are committed to creating a future where human rights are enjoyed by everyone. United by our shared humanity, we know that the power to create positive change is within all of us.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Later this month, I will visit Peru and raise funds for Amnesty International as I trek to Machu Picchu with a group of Amnesty supporters.

During my time in Peru, I will visit the Amnesty Empowerment, Education and Justice Project and meet Community Leaders such as Ines Condori. Ines is the the President of the Women’s Association for Victims of Enforced Sterilisations in the region of Chumbivilcas.

During the late 1990’s, hundreds of indigenous women and men in Peru say there were sterilised against their will as part of a population control policy. I have seen the success of Amnesty Peru's recent work relating to lobbying the Peruvian government into passing a law establishing a register for the thousands who suffered this serious human rights violation.

As well as raising awareness of Amnesty’s work, the aim of this challenge is to also raise funds for our vital campaigning work.

With that in mind, I’m reaching out for support. I want to make sure that I raise a significant amount for Amnesty International Ireland.
