Story

We share with you some very sad news. Thomas Pepper, Common Ground Relief's Executive Director, died of cancer on November 23, 2019. We are all grieving the loss of an organizational leader, a passionate civic activist, a great friend, and a man who GAVE to his community.

While we mourn Thom’s passing, we also want to celebrate his life. Thom worked tirelessly to restore Louisiana’s coastal wetlands, rebuild the Lower Ninth Ward, provide support and resources for those in need, and foster a new generation of environmental stewards who would continue to stand up for social, economic, and environmental justice
in Louisiana.

In the past year, Thom was most excited about Common Ground Relief’s newest initiative - Plant a Million Trees. You can read more about this initiative at https://www.commongroundrelief.org/plant-a-million-trees/.
