National Three Peaks Challenge · 7 May 2011

HHA has been working in the developing world since 2006. Originally in Haiti, but now in Uganda and South Sudan. We focus on the most vulnerable people tackling poverty through holistic disability care, and by improving community support and facility-based care for mothers and babies.

Story

Congratulations to company director James Lock and his team who completed the National Three Peaks 24hr Challenge in aid of Haiti Hospital Appeal with just ten minutes to spare. The eight-strong group scaled Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 23 hours and 50 minutes, despite losing half an hour after taking a wrong turn climbing Scafell Pike. Due to injuries, just three of the second team taking part in the challenge climbed all three mountains albeit outside of 24 hours. A huge well done to everyone who took part.

Please continue helping us to reach our target of raising £10,000 for the Appeal. If we achieve it, it will be the greatest amount ever raised for the charity via justgiving. The money will go towards building of a maternity and paediatric unit in Haiti.

About the charity

Haiti Hospital Appeal has worked since 2006 to establish a hospital in the north of the country as part of its plan to deliver quality healthcare across Haiti. The charity plays a key role in providing relief to those affected by the earthquake that hit the capital Port-au-Prince in January last year. It also seeks to raise the level of support and care available to children with disabilities.

The following people completed the Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours: Daniel Wharakura, Simon Mayo, Neil Aitken, James Lock, Tom Lyons, Peter Mobin, Paul Clark and Howard Reading. Sim Riordan, Colin Parker and Melanie Roberts also completed the Challenge. Well done to Annabel Crooke, Nousheen Bangee, Andrew Drwiega and Paul Ruffley who also took part. A huge thank you to our mountain guides Nick Fisher and Jamie Evans for leading the teams, everyone at Fort William Backpackers Hostel for their hospitality and patience when we took over their kitchen for an entire afternoon to cook up giant vats of pasta and boil mountains of eggs. Last but certainly not least, thank you so much to Christian Bailey and Daniel Brook for giving up their weekend to drive the teams- your generosity was incredible and we could not have done it without you.
