Communities for Refugees Western Isles is raising money for CITIZENS UK
Story
Communities for Refugees, Western Isles is a new group hoping to see the Western Isles participating in the UK Government’s community sponsorship scheme, set up as a safe and legal way for refugees to arrive in the UK. Through the scheme, locally-based community groups can work together to bring a vulnerable refugee family to live in the islands.
Some background from our founder and temporary Chair, Mhairi Murdoch:
Personally, I was motivated to set the group up after meeting refugees whilst working as a medical volunteer in France, and after seeing how well our local community has welcomed the Syrian refugees and more recently, through the Linda Norgrove Foundation, a family from Afghanistan. This scheme allows an additional refugee family who would not otherwise gain access to the UK to have a safe home. Communities for refugees Western Isles feel that the Western Isles is a caring and welcoming community that is well-placed to help another family. Prior to the family’s arrival, the group needs to fundraise at least £9,000.

We are asking those in support of the project to take a picture of themselves holding a 'welcome' sign and post it to our Facebook group, where possible pledging a one pound donation.
