"The number of people marching towards starvation has spiked to now 14 million." - Director of the World Food Program
Due to the sudden rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan, the international aid that accounts for almost 40% of Afghanistan's GDP was shut off. The IMF has blocked off access to $460 million that Afghanistan had in emergency reserves, and the World Bank has also frozen its aid to Afghanistan. In addition, the US barricaded almost $7 billion in Afghan bank reserves held in US institutions. Piling all of this onto years of drought, economic deterioration, and a global pandemic, it's easy to see how this is a ticking time bomb.
With an estimated one out of every three Afghans suffering from malnourishment and food deprivation, and the increasing worry of climate change worsening the drought, the need for food assistance has sky-rocketed. To emphasize the severity of the issue, on September 23rd the World Food Program announced that only 5% of the population in Afghanistan has enough to feed themselves on a daily basis.
Our mission at Community Connector is to create a small but measurable impact and aid those in urgent need. With our target set at $10000 all of the money donated will be used in creating food parcels. Utilizing long-standing connections in the country these food parcels will be distributed to the sick, elderly, woman, children, and widows in the province of Herat. Each food parcel costs $100 and consists of staple foods of the region including rice, wheat, and beans. In addition, each parcel can be expected to sustain 1 family for an ENTIRE month.
It is your chance to make a much-needed impact, donate Today!
