Virgin London Marathon 2015 · 26 April 2015 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page, we are running in memory of my brother Martin Bacon and for the Sue Ryder charity (specifically their Thorpe Hall hospice) this is where Martin spent the final few weeks of his life. This incredible hospice provides care for people with a frightening, life-changing diagnosis. Not only do they treat more conditions than any other UK hospice charity, they also focus on the quality of life and provide specialist nursing and medical care so people can live the fullest life they can.
Martin and his family were so wonderfully looked after at Thorpe Hall that it certainly became home away from home for us in his last weeks. I am truly indebted to the way the staff treated Martin and knew I wanted to give something back in appreciation of their fantastic work. Thorpe Hall has a target to raise £6m to build a new state of the art, 20 room hospice and day care centre to replace their current hospice. Over £3.5m has been raised already and building works are well on their way to see the first patients use the facility in the summer of 2015.
So this is my opportunity to help....and where you come in please.
Martin was the sportsman in the family, triathlons, half marathons, never a marathon, and never the London Marathon which, year after year he aspired to run. In a moment of madness and in Martins last few months I agreed to run the Swavesey Village College 5 Mile run with him and, having completed this together I committed to then keep on running.
So this year, on the 26th April I am running the London Marathon, not alone but with 4 work colleagues who I have cog-oiled into running with me. The others joining me are Darran Brand, Peter Rice-Evans, Michelle Bourne and Rachel Gill, and we all work for Como Interiors.
Please join us in recognising the significance of this appeal and support us in raising money for this wonderful cause as its people like you who can make a difference in ensuring patients get quality care during the most difficult time of their life.
If you are a UK tax payer please remember to tick the Gift Aid Box to ensure that your contribution goes that extra 20% further. Donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. So please do donate generously.
Bear in mind none of us are runners, the most any one of us had run before the start of 2015 was a half marathon, and some of us had not run at all 3 months ago....!
Thanks for your support
