Story
In 2015 I personally experienced chronic rough sleeping as a result of depression, addiction and a total loss of self esteem. I lost my job, my family, my friends and everything that I valued in my life. It was while I was rough sleeping, that I became unwell and after several visits to the hospital, I was diagnosed with cancer and poor physical and mental health.
After the diagnosis, I slept rough for a further month. During this time I felt the most scared and lonely I've ever felt in my life and reached out for help and support. After asking for help, I got the help I needed to become sober, to get off the streets and receive medical treatment for my cancer as well as other health issues.
Two years on I am now volunteering for several charities around London to help end chronic street homelessness and support vulnerable people. In doing so, I feel better in myself in the knowledge that I am helping others through struggles I also have faced and overcome.
One of those is Evolve Housing + Support with their campaign CR Zero 2020, a European wide end chronic street homelessness project.
I am now in a position to improve my health and fitness as a result of overcoming my cancer and health issues in a way that can benefit some of the organisations that have helped me and benefit others.
I have decided to run the Vitality London 10,000 which is a 10k run through London on the 28th May 2018. The money I raise will go towards providing accommodation and support services for chronic rough sleepers for a Evolve Housing.
Evolve Housing + Support are the third largest provider of homelessness accommodation and work across 8 boroughs in London. Not only do they provide a roof, they also provide vital support services to those they house in order to support them on their journey of recovery, with the aim of helping them become independent and regain their place within society.
Thank you so much for supporting me and this cause.
