Story

WHY? As my Dad often said, "Hike More, Worry Less!" and thankfully, the mountains (that is, 7 * 4,000m peaks to be exact) are calling once again. I am very uncomfortably excited to be joining 11 intrepid adventurers from Samsung UK & Ireland to raise money for The Lily Foundation.

WHAT? This will be another epic Samsung #DoWhatYouCant challenge. Over seven days we will scale seven formidable peaks of the the Monte Rosa Massif that straddles the border between Italy and Switzerland. The Massif dominates the surrounding area with an impressive ten peaks over 4,000m high.

ARE YOU MAD!? Many would nod to that question as this challenge is tough. It entails many days of glacier trekking in freezing conditions, traversing bottomless crevasses, scaling high-altitude alpine peaks and enduring sleepless nights at high-altitude. I've been at these altitudes on previous expeditions and, whilst invigorating, it is an extreme environment that takes its toll on your body and mind. Deep resilience, mental fortitude, team work and determination is needed for the whole team to overcome this challenge (as well as a fair dose of Irish craic to keep us smiling!)

WHO? I am excited to be joined by 11 other fellow climbers all of whom have been selected to take part thanks to their appetite to challenge themselves and form a strong team in an effort to raise money for The Lily Foundation.

THIS IS FOR POPPY AND THOSE LIKE HER. My close friend James has a beautiful daughter Poppy who heroically battles with Mitochondrial Disease. Poppy is real inspiration and joy to her family and friends. I want to support The Lily Foundation charity as they give hope, answers and support to Poppy and her family and the many other children and families that face the challenges of this disease today. Did you know every twenty minutes a child is born who will develop Mitochondrial Disease by the age of 16! There is no cure for this disease which is for many, debilitating and life limiting. Please stand with us and fight Mitochondrial Disease and fight for hope.

Thanks to our partners Bluesquare for their support and also to Haglof UK for supporting with their top-quality outdoor trekking gear.

To the hills we go on 7th September.

Thank you for all your donations to this very worthy cause, a charity close to my heart.
