Story

What's all this then?

Saturday 24 August not only marks my birthday, but also presents the perfect opportunity to gather a small group of food-loving friends for a Syrian-inspired supper club to raise funds for Syria's children. This will form a feast with a side of fundraising. (Never fear, Bradley will be supervising in the kitchen.)

And, those further flung can contribute from afar by donating to this page.

Why am I cooking for Syria?

Through #CookForSyria you can raise essential funds for the children of Syria, while celebrating the country's fantastic culture and cuisine.

After eight years of war, children and families in Syria still face violence, displacement, disease and starvation, with nearly 2 million children living in besieged or hard-to-reach areas.

Over 2.6 million children live in precarious conditions as refugees in neighbouring Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq. There is no sign that war is ending.

By supporting #CookForSyria you're directly helping UNICEF to provide aid to Syrian children, including life-saving food, medical care and clean water to children affected by the crisis. UNICEF also provides long-term care in the form of education and emotional support, with safe places for children to learn and play and helps these children put their lives back together.

What can my donation do?

Here are some examples:

  • $30 could provide 50 textbooks to a school, helping give children the chance to learn and progress in life
  • $50 could provide 100 packets of life-saving peanut paste to bring a severely malnourished child back to health
  • $150 could provide 20,000 water purification tablets to clean litres of water for children and families

What's does the supper club event involve?

This once-off evening is a Syrian-inspired supper club to raise funds for the #CookForSyria campaign.

[Please note: due to limited space in my apartment, the supper club will be limited to a very small group!]

When: From 5.30pm on 24 August

Where: Once you've indicated you're coming via the Facebook page, I'll send you my address.

What: A casual supper prepared by yours truly (with help from Brad!) to raise funds for the children of Syria (while simultaneously warming our home).

How: Make your donation to the cause through this page, RSVP via Facebook, and feel free to bring a plate if you wish (although we have a tendency to go a little overboard, so this is not at all essential). Please BYO drinks.

But I don't live in Sydney! How do I contribute?

Easy! You can donate to this page, or create your own fundraiser. And, you can visit cookforsyria.com for Syrian-inspired recipes. You can share the word on the socials using the hashtag #cookforsyria too.
