Federated Hermes International's Ride Challenge 2020 · 1 September 2020 ·
I sadly lost my father to a brain tumour at the end of 2018. I made a promise to dad that I would ride in his honour from his native Yorkshire (well Hadrian's Wall is not too much further) to the Hamble were he kept his beloved yacht, helping raise awareness and funding for the Brain Tumour Charity, to help fund the vital research work they do to find a cure and the support they provide families tackling the disease. My twin sister was diagnosed with an anaplastic astrocytoma in 2012 and survives today which is nothing short of a miracle as she was given only 6 months to live. So this is a cause very close to my heart.
And we have quite a challenge. Cycling well over 600 km and up almost as high as Mount Everest over five days. This is going to hurt. Having trained for the now delayed London Marathon I have only just dusted the bike off, so I have a lot of peddling to do before I can even contemplate the first stage which is a climb of 2,500 metres over 135km. And that's just the starter. Then we do it again, and again. And again.
Many of our riders have their personal reasons to ride. This ride challenge is to honour and celebrate our loved ones that have suffered from this disease and with your support, we are hoping to raise much needed funds for The Brain Tumour Charity. The Charity is at the forefront of the fight to defeat brain cancer and helps the lives of people with a brain tumour and their families.
Please give whatever you can, it is such a worthy cause and I hope my days in the saddle offer some recompense for your kind donations and support. Thank you, stay safe. JGC Riding 4 HGC.
