Bupa Great North Run 2011 · 18 September 2011 ·

Following a visit to Kenya in 2010 experiencing first hand the difficulties faced by children to receive an education and ensure a better future, we set up A Fish For Life to send 10 orphaned children through Primary and Secondary education in Kilifi. We continue to support the same children who next year will all be in Secondary Education. This entails a significant increase in costs compared to Primary Education to cover school fees, uniforms, books, food and either transport or boarding fees depending on the distance the school is from the orphanage in which the children have gained a place. We dearly wish to keep all of our children's education funded until they have all completed their studies which will be 2023.

Story

Set up in 2007, ‘A Fish For Life’ is a registered charity from which all funds raised are used for different projects to specifically help children. Managed by Directors Jo and Dale Robinson, their reason for setting up ‘A Fish For Life’ was to make a difference to children’s lives, whether it is on a large or small scale. All funds raised directly benefit the causes – there are no overhead deductions and we are privileged to have an army of enthusiastic volunteers to make dreams become reality.

‘A Fish For Life’ was chosen as the charity name because ‘give someone a fish and they will eat for a day, give them a rod and show them how to use it and they will eat for the rest of their lives.’ It’s all about helping children in sometimes desperate situations, to make a better future for themselves. Each project is looked at on an individual and varied basis – our first major project was in Kenya, the next is in England.
