Story

Help Your Local Hospitals Go Above and Beyond, Today

Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor Jack Harrison, is lending his special support to the city’s Neonatal Unit, after including it as one of three causes in his Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

Jack has been championing the service for the past 20 years.  As Chair of the Rolls Royce charity, he received requests from local people for donations to be made to the neonatal unit and recently his interest became more personal when his grandson, James, was born six weeks early.

As Lord Mayor he hopes to raise funds to help enhance their care and facilities - helping baby, mum and dad.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust's Neonatal Unit  provides family centred intensive care to a range of babies, from the smallest and sickest premature babies of 23-24 weeks to full term newborn babies.

UHCW Charity makes a real difference to the service by enhancing care and facilities, this has included:

* Refurbishing parents rooms, providing areas of relaxation and kitchen facilities  so parents can be closer to their baby and participate in their  baby’s care.

* Helping staff to stay up to date with skills and best practise through funding their attendance of training courses.

* Funding new equipment such as tiny dummies so the smallest baby can be comforted.

* Giving mum and dad a picture, hand and footprint of their baby on the 100th day of life.

* When needed, funding state of the art equipment such as an intensive care incubator.

By supporting the Lord Mayor’s Appeal you will help us continue this vital work.
