Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Myself and a small group of mates are taking part in a self designed bike ride on starting on Sunday the 24th April 2022. 9 children’s hospitals across 9 cities in 7 days. We will take the journey from Glasgow childrens hospital and visit Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool, Cardiff, London (Great Ormond Street), Birmingham, finishing off at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital of which all proceeds are to be donated to their Ward 78. The total distance of this ride hospital to hospital will be 879 miles.
Backstory to this challenge is quite a personal one for myself.
Back in 2018 my daughter was born with a condition called hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain) as a result of a stroke during late stages of pregnancy. This resulted in her needing emergency brain surgery to fit a VP Shunt (small valve) permanently to her head. This also resulted in her having cerebral palsy in the right side of her body and being susceptible to seizures. From day 1 the hospital and it’s staff couldn’t have done enough to put us at ease and ensure she got the best treatment possible. Over the last few years she has had multiple stays back at the hospital for revisions and corrections of her Shunt and various other checks. She will potentially be there again many more times over the course of her childhood. For me it has always been about doing something to give back to the hospital for their efforts to make sure she has been able to get to where she is today. Hence taking on this ride. Myself and the team realise the task ahead is massive but are looking forward to testing our bodies abilities. A small feat compared to what some of the children this money may help have to go through.
If you have got to this point thank you for taking the time to read our story and thank you for any donations you decide to give.
