72 Holes of Golf in a day · 15 June 2018

Encephalitis International is the only non-profit of any size anywhere in the world providing direct support and information to people affected by encephalitis (brain inflammation), raising awareness, and furthering our understanding of the condition through research.

Story

Friday June 15th, Myself, Mike Shore, Tom Jones, Mark Jones and Michael Stoddart will be taking on the 72 holes of golf in a single day at Ellesmere Port Golf Club, and here is why...

Late December 2017 my Dad was taken into hospital with a temperature and suspected stroke, he had short term memory loss and was very confused. After spending 6 weeks in hospital he was eventually diagnosed with Encephalitis, which is an inflammation of the brain.

Once we learnt of the diagnosis and the affects, I took it upon myself to do some research into Encephalitis as a condition and into the Encephalitis Society. Whilst researching I discovered that eighty per cent of the general public do not know that Encephalitis causes brain inflammation and this can lead to delays in seeking treatment which may have devastating consequences. Our vision is of a world where Encephalitis is as recognisable as Motor Neurone Disease or bacterial Meningitis, both of which are less common but better known conditions.

This really hit home and made me realise I should do something to help raise awareness for Encephalitis.

Golf has been the one sport that both my Dad and myself have a love for, play most weekends with our Society were we get to catch up, hang out have fun and forget our worries whilst playing golf.

On June 15th Me, Mike shore,Tom Jones, Mark Jones and Michael Stoddart will be heading back to the first course my Dad introduced to me to raise awareness and raise some money for a great cause.
