Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity believes no child should face hospital alone. Every day, 500 seriously ill children face a life-changing hospital visit. Children tell us it can be frightening. Parents say they're sick with worry. We want to change this. With your support, we can. Are you in?

Story

Thank you for taking time to visit my JustGiving page.

Craig Gowans was an immensely talented young footballer, growing artist and academic. He died tragically on the 8 of July 2005, in a training ground incident aged just 17, two weeks after signing a professional football contract with Falkirk FC.

Craig was one of the greatest people that I had the privilege to call my friend and to mark the 10th year anniversary of his passing, myself and 35 others are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest 11-a-side football match ever (The record currently stands at 72 hours).

The game kicks off on the 4 of July 2015. The venue is Ainslie Park, Edinburgh (home of Spartans FC). We’re hoping to raise £37,000 (Craig’s shirt number) for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation on behalf of the Craig Gowans Memorial Fund.

The money raised will help fund enhancements to the new Sick Kids hospital at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France. We’re aiming to raise funds for a state of the art Snoezelen room in Craig’s name. This is a calming room with multi-sensory equipment to provide a relaxing and stimulating space, important for children with sensory impairments.

For more information regarding the event please visit our Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/TCGGWRM and Twitter http://www.twitter.com/TCGGWRM37.

This event is classified as an 'extreme endurance event', and in terms of distance covered, the event has been compared to running 6 marathons in 4 days. Please help myself, and the rest of the players, reach our goal and continue to use Craig’s name as a force for good.
