Alcatraz "Escape from the Rock" Aquathlon
This summer I have been fortunate enough to travel to California to gain invaluable experience interning in Silicon Valley.
None of this would have been possible without The Saltire Foundation, who provide amazing opportunities for undergraduates studying in Scotland. As an independent charity they rely on sponsors and donations to continue to support students both domestically and abroad.
So to give something back I'm raising money for two remarkable charities: The Saltire Foundation and the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH).
Find out more about the charities here:
To do this I'm attempting the Alcatraz "Escape from the Rock" Aquathlon on Saturday the 27th. It consists of a 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco followed by a 7 mile run from Aquatic Park to the Golden Gate Bridge.
The run will be tough but the real test is in my first open water swim. The pacific ocean water in the bay is freezing cold with unpredictable currents creating choppy waves and strong ebb tides pushing swimmers out to sea. Throw in a few sharks for motivation and it makes for a fun challenge!
Please support me by donating to this page and providing extra incentive not to drown!
Every little helps and all donations will be split evenly between the Saltire Foundation and SAMH.
You can read more about the event on the registration page here:
Or look up any 'Alcatraz swim' as several companies organise similar challenges throughout the year.
