In January 2021, our friend Craig was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer - desmoplastic small round cell sarcoma, which at the point of being found was incurable.

The way that Craig faced his diagnosis and the intensive treatment was an inspiration to many people, far wider than his family, loved ones and friends.

Craig didn’t complain once at what he was going through and as he would say, ‘just got on with it.’ Unfortunately, Craig passed away in October 2021 at the age of 37.

Maggie’s Edinburgh were a brilliant support to Craig, and we know how much the emotional support, comfort and advice meant to him as he was enduring the most difficult of times.

Maggie’s offers the best possible support to anyone with cancer as well as their families. The staff help people take back control when cancer turns life upside down, with professional support for anything from treatment side effects to practical advice covering a range of topics.

A cancer diagnosis is much more than just needing medical treatment. Maggie’s provide information about how treatment will affect you and a place to go where people can meet and talk to others who are going through the same experiences. All services provided by Maggie’s are free.

A group of Craig’s friends are entering two teams into this years Edinburgh Marathon Festival relay event. We’re obviously competing against each other for the quickest time, as Craig would want us to. More importantly than that, we’re running in memory of our friend and attempting to raise as much money as possible for a charity which was close to him, and continues to be to his family and loved ones.
