Each year I try to do something stupid. Last summer, as part of a series of 6 marathons I ran the Comrades 'up' route in Africa. This was my first double marathon, run in 35 degree heat and I raised just shy of £4,000 for charity.
This year, we're getting out of the heat and into the freezer with a trip to Antarctica to run a 100km ultra marathon. Last year's event was won in 11 hours, the 5th person (of 5) came in after 22. I'm hoping for somewhere in the middle...
The entry costs for this are huge. Over £10,000 when you include flights and hotels. I have been very fortunate to receive nearly 3/4 through corporate sponsorship. The rest I'm putting up myself.
This means that all the money that I now raise will go towards Prostate Cancer UK. A charity I've supported for years in light of family connections with the cancer.
I'm doing something stupid so you don't have to. So why not pop a few quid in the tin for a good cause!
