Story
The festive season is nearly upon us and while Christmas is undoubtedly going to be different for all of us this year, for some, it will be especially difficult. The economic consequences of the pandemic have been devastating and with many now unable to afford the basics, they have turned to food banks.
Even before the pandemic, food banks were recording record levels of need across the country, but the situation has reached crisis levels in recent months. From April to September 2020, 1.2 million food parcels were distributed by Trussell Trust food banks; a UK-wide charity which supports a network of foodbanks to provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty. That’s 2,600 food parcels a day and the charity expects winter to be even busier. They estimate that they are likely to give out 6 emergency food parcels a minute this winter, that’s a 61% increase on last year.
This year, the Creditfix Group have partnered with the Trussell Trust to support UK foodbanks in the run up to Christmas. As the government guidelines vary from region to region, this has sadly stopped us from being able to run many of our normal fundraising campaigns. We do however, want to help the Trussell Trust in any way we can and that’s why we are going to run a Virtual Food Drive! This will allow the food banks to purchase the items that they are urgently in need of.
Fundraising ends Friday 11th December
