Story

3:16 The Mobile Bible Experience

CRIBS has a new mobile project called 3:16. We were given a double-decker bus which we fitted out to make a creative space for encountering important values. This year it’s the 400th Anniversary of the Bible authorised and published in English. We invite young people to take a fresh look at some of the great stories and wisdom in the old book which has informed and shaped our history, culture and the lives of millions of people around the world. The bus is booked to be taken to schools and youth groups across the borough. We have created three fascinating zones on board the bus: three stopping places along the learning journey and the chance to reflect in each of them.

Engage with story …

Some of the most amazing and inspiring stories in literature about Faith, Hope and Love will be re-told for a new generation in ways that will provoke thought and discussion.

Engage with issues …

We will grapple with hot topics such as Identity, Peace and Forgiveness and encounter some of the big values that go to the heart of who we are and how we live together.

Explore characters …

An in-depth look at some old and new history-makers and the core beliefs which massively influenced their motivation, decision-making and impact on society.

Explore meaning …

Encouraging young people to think through some of the big life questions such as
Why am I here?
To whom do I belong?
Is there life after death?

Express beliefs …

The creative spaces on board the bus will give opportunity for reflective, hands-on exercises that will help the young people
to express their own thoughts and dreams and empower them to be effective learners and good citizens.

Express hope …

In lots of creative and imaginative ways through the use of mirrors, bubble tubes, plasma balls and a giant mosaic.

Usually we spend at least a week in each school we visit to give plenty of opportunity for classes to come on board. Our target group is Years 5 to 8 (9 to 13 year olds), but we accommodate other year groups by offering three programmes of lesson activities. To launch the 3:16 experience we perform a presentation on the story of the Bible to the whole school at the beginning of the visit.

Why 3:16?

Two reasons really - the obvious one - John 3:16 but also because of 2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT) 'All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realise what is wrong in our lives.  It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.'

3:16 is one of a number of many events taking place all over the country to mark the 400th Anniversary of the King James Bible. From cathedral lectures to theatre performances, thousands of people will be gathering together to mark this significant occasion. You can find out more by visiting www.2011trust.org
