11 years ago my grandfather lost his life to an industrial related diesease called Mesothelioma. For all of you who are unaware of Mesothelioma and what it is, Mesothelioma is type of lung cancer caused by exposure to large amounts of asbestos for very long periods of time. There is no cure for Mesothelioma however some patients have been able to manage the diesease using a range of different treatment methods and therefore increasing their chance of survival from 1 to 3 years. In the U.S alone Mesothelioma claimed nearly 30,000 lives between 1999 and 2010. About 40 percent of U.S. patients live to the one year mark. By the second year, about 20 percent of patients are still alive. And by the third year, the number is 8 percent. Unfortunately my grandfather didn't make it to the second year..
