Sisters ~ Double the Long Hair cut for Children with Cancer

Liz Newton is raising money for Little Princess Trust
In memory of Our Mum
The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions. The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.

Story

My sister & I are both privileged to have wonderfully thick, long hair - we feel very fortunate. Our 'crowning glory' our mother called it.

Sadly, Mum had a brain tumour back in 1977, resulting in surgery when she lost her own beautiful thick, golden hair to the Cancer op. Back in those days, hair loss through cancer treatment was rare (the treatment was new). She had to endure wearing nylon wigs.

Whilst she did this with great style and pride, losing her glorious hair was especially hard to bear. One of my proudest memories was her going out for the first time with her real hair having grown back. She'd had it cut & styled that day for the first time. It was a different colour to the nylon wig she'd worn out that morning but she didn't mind. She had her real hair back & had it styled to suit her.  It was an important milestone.

Sadly, we lost Mum in 1980, but that 'real hair' day is as vivid to me as if it was yesterday. I was so proud of her.

As a mother of 2 fit & healthy boys, I know I have been very fortunate that they never suffered from any major or life-changing illnesses. Children with Cancer is a charity I have supported for many years. Brave children who are battling such a cruel illness and lose their own hair through treatment, deserve any help we can give.  I can't help medically but...if I can help one girl to feel more confident by giving her the opportunity to have a wig made especially for her, with my long blonde hair - then, happy days.

I've had it all my life - now its time to give it up & let it bring some level of comfort to a less fortunate young girl.

The Little Princess Trust do fantastic work by helping restore confidence through making their real hair wigs. It costs over £500 to make a real hair wig.  Please help us to raise this amount to remove any burden on the charity in completing this task.

I have known Trevor Sorbie for many years - he is an excellent ambassador for the British Hair Industry. He told me about his My New Hair venture following a family need for a real hair wig through illness. He was very excited to be working on something so worthwhile & it really hit a chord with me - for obvious reasons.

My New Hair (mynewhair) trains hairdressers to cut & style wigs to suit the wearer - this also brings the wearer more confidence.

The culmination of all of the above has brought us to this point. Its time to make the cut & with Trevor's team generously gifting 'the cut' & the LPT taking over from there - it just leaves Trisha & I and all our friends.... to help raise some serious money to help these amazing causes. To be doing this alongside my sister, makes this even more meaningful.

THANK YOU in advance for any support you are able to give us.
