Story

The Paigton Regatta criterium has a long and proud history with past winners of the Elite race including Marcin Białobłocki, Chris Opie and our own Andrew Parker. With a lack of an actual Paignton Regatta this year, the view across the bay from the velopark includes an assortment of cruise ships that have been with us throughout the pandemic.

There will be racing for all categories and again will include a Masters race for those over 40 who favour keeping the racing legs moving without having them ripped off by the 'youngsters'. That said, it's no club ride!

As it's been a super-tough time for well over a year for many people due to covid and the isolation, effects on mental health and wellbeing that this brought, our event will be raising money for CALM - The Campaign Against Living Miserably.

Event organiser, Martin Smith, lost his son Hayden to suicide 2 years ago and this event falls a few days after the anniversary. Hayden was a budding cyclist who, at 15 years old, rode the London to Paris route with school mates to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

For this event we would like to raise as much as we can for CALM as suicide rates especially in males rises to ever higher levels. If you can donate, no matter how little, it will be a huge help.

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide, the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. Our goal is a life less miserable for you, your friends, your family and for all men.CALM PROVIDES> A free and anonymous helpline 0800 58 58 58 and webchat (5pm-12am daily) staffed by trained professionals> Bereavement support > A website www.theCALMzone.net with inspiring content> Campaigns tackling stereotypes of masculinity, suicide and mental health.
