Story
Hello, on 15th May the whole team, Nicky Harrison, Nicole Mullen, Laura Rothwell + Lauren Watson are walking on broken glass to raise money for Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland!
This year one of our clients, Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland is 40 years old. That's 40 years of supporting women and girls who have experienced sexual violence.
In 2018 they hope to raise £40,000 to mark 40 years, and we are ambitiously aiming to raise 10% of that by walking across ten feet of broken glass.
Apparently, glass walking is the next step up from firewalking, which none of us has done - so this should be interesting.
This is a cause which is very close to our hearts, no woman should ever have to use a Rape Crisis centre, but the fact is that 85,000 women are raped every year in England and Wales. this figure doesn't even begin to cover sexual assaults and childhood sexual abuse, for which Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland also offer counselling, practical and emotional support as well as a telephone helpline and advice to those who have loved ones that have experienced sexual violence.
In 2016/17 around 67,000 people accessed Rape Crisis services across England and Wales, that's increased 16% from the previous year. Sadly, the waiting lists get longer as more and more women are empowered to come forward. We want to raise as much money as possible so that Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland can reduce their waiting lists and support more women and girls in whatever way they need.
Please donate! And, if you're in Newcastle on 15th May, come and watch what could end up being the next 'When Good Events Go Bad' on channel 5 next year.
