Story
CSW Asso Hospital/Clinic Project
On Easter Day this year Fulani gunmen attacked Christians as they attended Church in the isolated village of Asso, killing 12 people. Since that time further attacks have been made, killing 22 people in all. Asso and surrounding communities, (totalling around 6,000 mainly Christian people) is located in Southern Kaduna, Nigeria, and the nearest medical facilities are 25km away, with very poor road access.
I visited the village in September 2017, and witnessed first hand many of those injured in these regular attacks and who have suffered from this lack of medical attention. Some of those I met still had fresh bullet wounds, and even bullets still in their bodies.
Aside from the current problem with the Fulani, sadly there has been frequent loss of life in the area because of this lack of basic medical care. The local community are ready to donate the land for the construction of a hospital/clinic, where the aim will be to provide a comprehensive health programme - preventive, curative, and rehabilitation. Christian Solidarity Worldwide Nigeria (CSWN) will fund the project and on completion, it will be handed over to ECWA (the second largest Christian denomination in Nigeria) who, with their expertise in community health management will manage and run the facility. The total cost to build and equip this hospital (including living accommodation for staff) will be around £50,000.
