Story

Dorset Ultramarathon

  • To help fundraise for RMA, a group of 13 Young Officers based at CTCRM, Lympstone, have decided after 15 months of Commando training to put themselves through yet another arduous physical test - this time with the aim of fundraising and educating for the RMA amongst their cohort. 9 of them will complete a 36 mile route along the Dorset coastal path with 7000ft of elevation along the way. 1 of them will complete a 27 mile route with 4000ft, and 3 of them will complete the smaller, yet still daunting, 13 mile course with 1700ft of elevation. Whilst completing the challenging event over undulating terrain, the YOs will have plenty of time to think about the RMA and the work it does for the Corps family. This event is therefore not just about the YOs thrashing themselves - it is about commemorating 80 years of Commando heritage, supporting the Royal Marines Charity, and spreading awareness amongst the Young Officers.

Commando 80

  • In 1942, the Corps of Royal Marines formed the first Royal Marines Commando units. Trained at Achnacarry, Scotland, they played a key role in turning the tide against Axis powers in WW2. Today, the Royal Marines continue their Commando legacy. This year marks 80 years since the formation of the first Royal Marines Commandos. The RMA - the Royal Marines Charity is leading a range of Commando80 events to fundraise this momentous occasion.

RMA - The Royal Marines Charity

  • RMA - the Royal Marines Charity provides support, advice and friendship to serving and retired Royal Marines, their families, those who aspire to join and those with close links to our Corps. They are a central pillar of life in the Corps and provide a network of lifelong support to Commandos and their families, as well as commemorating those who have lost their lives and assisting those who have suffered injury as a result of their service. Their work is invaluable to the Royal Marines family.
