Story

Update 10th September 2013.16.25pm

Dear Friends and Colleagues, It happened!!

22.5 hours in total time to complete, so only 30 minutes outside of our projected time!!

However, not without some challenges.. My bike decided to give up changing gear at 8.30pm on Friday evening. Probably after the rain, wind and hours of climbing had taken their toll on the gears!! The cable had snapped and lodged itself awkwardly. Sufficiently enough that I had to utilise Mark's bike, changing the saddle, pedals, lights etc. So glad Mark had joined us as support. Unfortunately when it happened Mark was in Sunderland and we were in Alston!! It was 11pm before we got going again. Mark managed to get it repaired for saturday am when coming back the other way!!
Anyway, this was the only major mishap, I think it's fair to say that hill climbing featured heavily in our trip.

Having to climb up Whinlatter pass when your legs have 200+ miles in them is not one for the faint hearted!! 15% incline hill, 1000ft plus..

The climbing was in excess of 10,000 feet total, the machines gave up after a while unfortunately so can't report accurately.

Definitely the hardest challenge yet for Paul and myself, although the rain and wind will have to take some blame for this. There were some highlights, perhaps not as many as we would have hoped for but spirit's were somehwat dampened by the weather making it horrible in some places to be honest.

Anyway the main highlight was the finish in Whitehaven and the curry and beer that followed.

Thanks so much to everyone that has supported us, our families, Mark, thanks so much for your help, couldn't have dome it without you. Most importantly, everyone that has donated to the event, thank you so much, every penny is so welcome and much appreciated by us all.

Next Year's challenge is the 3 peaks with cycling between them!! 470+ miles of riding and 13,000 feet of mountain climbing/running/jogging/crawling!! June 2014, can't wait!! (What fools we are)

See you soon.... Neil and Paul

Thanks for taking the time to visit our CtoCtoC JustGiving page.

As we always try to do at least one event per year for Macmillan Cancer, 2013 will be no different.

Paul and Myself will be embarking on another crazy bike challenge. This year we are road cycling from the West coast of Britain to the East coast of Britain and back again to the West Coast. This will total just under 300 miles given the route we intend to take.

I guess not too dramatic on first glance, however as always there will be a time limit. We will have completed the total journey including stops, for the usual things people have to do in the day (leaves a lot to go at!!), within 24 hours, hopefully closer to 22 hours.

This means an average of 13-15mph or more on our trusty iron horses across the country through some of the most rugged terrain. Normally admired whilst in a car but dreaded on a 2 wheel friend!! The hills, the hills!!

We will keep you updated on our training which has already started, getting rid of the Christmas and New Year bellies!! The event will take place on the 6th September 2013 starting late evening on the Friday and finishing hopefully, maximum 24 hours later on the Saturday.

Please support us as best as you can, every little helps and as always going to Macmillan it is such a great charity that helps so many people in their hours of need.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Many thanks from Neil and Paul
