Curtins chosen charity partner for 2023 is Alzheimer's Research UK.
This is a charity that is really close to my heart as affected my grandad in his last years. So to help raise money to help towards making breakthroughs in dementia research possible, I am riding the 370km long King Alfred's Way.
The name of the trail is inspired by Alfred the Great, who ruled the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex. The trail starts and ends at King Alfred’s statue in Winchester where he is buried, and comprises a 370km circular off-road adventure route through 10,000 years of history, connecting some of England’s most iconic monuments including Stonehenge, Avebury stone circle, Iron Age hill forts, Farnham Castle, and Winchester and Salisbury Cathedrals.
The King Alfred's Way has been on my bucket list for some time and I'll be funding the trip myself, so any and all donations will go direct to Alzheimer's Research UK.
I'll be attempting the route completely unsupported, so will be carrying all of the kit I'll need to be able to complete the route in three and a half days.
Day 1: Thursday 22nd June - Winchester to Winterbourn Monkton. 109km and 1225m of climbing.
Day 2: Friday 23rd June - Winterbourn Monkton to South Reading. 99km and 980m of climbing.
Day 3: Saturday 24th June - South Reading to Clanfield. 124km and 1485m of climbing.
Day 4: Sunday 25th June - Clanfield to Winchester. 40km and 560m climbing.
Any support no matter how small would be greatly appreciated and will definitely help give me the motivation to keep pressing on, regardless of the weather.
Thanks, Andy
