Callie's Cuts for Keira

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My 8 year old daughter Callie is having her hair cut. She’s been growing it for over 5 years with the goal of being able to sit on it. Recently she achieved that dream and we were talking about hair donation and the Little Princess Trust. Without a second thought Callie decided she wanted to cut her hair and donate to the Trust for a little girl somewhere to be able to have a wig made for her. We decided to raise money for Clic Sargent so people could show Callie their support in doing this. If we raise upto £180 Callie will have 8” cut from her hair and if we reach £200 or more, she will have 10” cut off!
Christian is a family friend and used to be our neighbour, he was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma in 2013. He was only 11 years old. A year of intensive chemotherapy followed at Yorkhill Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow. During this time Clic Sargent invited Chris and his family, mum Sarah and older sister Ellie, to the Malcolm Sargent House, which provided respite for families, activities and medical care if needed. Malcolm Sargent House has since closed due to lack of funds.
Christian is now a very healthy 17 year old, loving life and looking forward to a very exciting future. He has now been in remission for four and a half years and continues to receive 6-monthly scans. Callie’s hair is being donated to the Little Princess Trust in Christian’s name.
Keira was a local girl who attended the same school as Callie. In August 2014 Keira was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour, she was a month short of her sixth birthday. Keira loved life, she cared deeply about other people, at school she was the mother hen and the person others came to whether they were happy, sad, ill or needed help.
Keira endured so much in the last three years of her life, fighting for life in PICU, learning to swallow again, being catheterised, adapting to using a wheelchair, which meant having to give up her beloved ballet, scans, intensive radiotherapy, blood tests and missing school. She did this with a determination, strength and courage that any adult would be proud off and did it all with a smile on her face.
By May 2016 Keira had undergone 41 radiation sessions and 1 CED infusion. In January 2017 a new tumour was found in the cerebellum and Keira started chemotherapy. In August 2017, after fighting sepsis and pneumonia, Keira developed shingles. She passed away in her mum’s arms. She was 8 years old and had been battling for 3 years. The entire community was affected by Keira’s passing, which is why we have chosen to donate all monies raised to Clic Sargent in Keira’s memory.
Our family friend and hairdresser Becky will be cutting Callie’s hair on Saturday 22nd June at Talking Heads salon in Alford, Lincs and we are extremely grateful to both Becky and salon owner Tess Turner for giving us space and their time for free.
As mum I am incredibly proud of Callie for doing this and also immensely thankful to Keira’s family and friends and also Christian and his mum for allowing us to do this in their names.
