Story
I am Cycling 100 miles for my grandad Sid, it has been around 11 years since he was first diagnosed with dementia and it has been one of the hardest things my family (especially my grandma) has had to deal with. I’ve watched on helplessly as the strongest man I have ever known slowly is taken away from us! He has gone from being able to do 1 arm push ups in his 60s to a frail figure of a man with no energy to even talk to us!
I have seen glimpses of his past self in recent times, especially when played his favourite tunes by Al Bowly but they have become few and far between! He is the biggest fighter I know and has currently turned his back and given Covid the finger!
The coming months are set to be tough and COVID-19 will hit people affected by dementia the hardest. This also means that our ability to ramp up support for the people who need us is at risk. We are estimating the scale of deficit to be in the millions, both as a result of COVID-19 and the impact on our fundraising income.
