Story
Within the month of June, I am supporting the Alzheimer's Society in fundraising a target of £500, by cycling 500 miles in my commute to work.
In the average time it takes somebody to cycle a mile (approximately three minutes), one person will have been diagnosed with dementia.
My fundraising will help the Alzheimer's Society carry out the significant work that they do within the UK, which I believe is of such importance and meaning - but is being affected massively by COVID-19, as they are estimating their scale of deficit to be in millions.
Here are three examples of how the money we fundraise together will directly support people living with dementia:
- £9.90 will begin someone’s 'Dementia Connect' journey by providing the first conversation with one of our telephone-based Dementia Advisers
- Telephone-based Dementia Advisers give essential support across the three nations, £95 can support them for a full day
- Just £3.83 turns an ordinary citizen into a superhero Dementia Friend. There is a stigma attached to living with dementia that is both deeply hurtful, and overwhelmingly unfair. 'Dementia Friends' is at its core an instrument for societal change, waking people up to the truth about dementia and helping them understand the impact on people’s lives
Thank you for donating and sharing the message. Stay well, and I look forward to updating you all with every new mile.
Best,
Matthew
