In October 2013, I took on an individual challenge that would seem too daunting for most! I started a 3500 mile ride from New York City to LA, coast to coast of United States. The challenge saw me ride in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees and also in -10 with snow - so it was tough. It also included huge mountains and terrain that I'm not used to being from the UK.

Unfortunately I fractured my ankle and had tendinitis in my Achilles - I did manage to get 900 miles further than when I first injured myself, this shows my determination and also drive to try and finish! 

Soooooo I have unfinished business and in September 2015 I am going back to finish - this will be around 1800 miles in 24 days of riding, so a hard challenge again! I've learnt from last time...no heavy kit and just the bare necessities

The reason why I am raising money:  

Alzheimer's Disease is something that affects so many people, whether a family or an individual - this is really a helpless situation. My grandfather struggled with this illness for 3 years before he passed away in August. Everyday things were a constant struggle, simple things were unrecognisable and conversation was limited. Things like not understanding how to eat food and to not remember where the toilet was, was a constant everyday struggle. This was not the grandfather I grew up knowing - he was an outgoing, vibrant and happy guy who lived for the moment. With this in mind, I have to do something to honour him and a nice funeral and telling his stories to my family and friends, is just not enough. The money raised this will go towards not only attempting to find a cure for this devastating illness but also to help support the families that have to cope with a family member in this position.
