100 Holes of Golf in 1 day · 28 September 2019

While your baby has specialist treatment at the John Radcliffe Hospital, we provide vital support to families. We also fund equipment for the unit, invest in training for NHS staff, run Little SSNAPlings and support research projects. We stand by families every step of the way.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

You may already know but on the 23rd May 2019 my wife's waters broke suddenly at 4.20am and 10 minutes later a foot appeared. With the ambulance called Siobhan was incredible but the baby's head was stuck. Olivia Joanna Grace was born at 5.20am not breathing and given emergency care and taken to hospital. Siobhán was losing a lot of blood and also needed emergency care.

When I arrived at the hospital Siobhan required surgery and Olivia needed help to breath and they were worried about brain damage so she had cooling therapy to prevent any further damage.

From that point on we were faced with incredibly difficult conversations and decisions so early on in our newborn's life.

The care that we received throughout our stay in intensive care and high dependency was beyond exemplary and Olivia would come home to us in the most incredible fashion and whilst she is brain damaged and we don't know her prognosis, we are lucky that she even survived.

During our stay we met some incredible people, not just on the medical side, but other families as well having to look on as their own child fought for survival.  One thing that struck Siobhan and I was the lack of reclining chairs for parents to hold their babies to get valuable feeding or skin to skin time.

Due to restrictions, only approved products can be purchased and these chairs cost £3000 EACH.  I want to try and buy a chair for the unit to help at least one more family have such important time with their baby in what is the most difficult of times.

In order to do that, I will challenge myself to play 100 holes of competitive golf in 1 day on Saturday 28th September at my club Frilford Heath who have pledged their support.  This means that every hole will count towards my handicap and for the golfers out there, you know that poses a risk.

I will also be hiring out part of the club house so people can come and watch, enjoy some food, drinks and activities and have a laugh at my expense, especially as the day draws to a close.

I will try and arrange more things for the day and keep you all informed.
