Daisie: "I have been training with my Daddy to run the Newham Family Run on 2nd July 2017. My Daddy has run at the Olympic Stadium for the last 2 years and this year I want to run with him and raise money for JDRF.

I have had Type 1 Diabetes since I was very poorly just after my first birthday. JDRF have helped me and they also give money to scientists so that one day I may not need 5 injections a day and all of the beeps that I have to check my blood. 

Please can you sponsor me so that I can give lots of money to JDRF."

Daddy: "Daisie was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 1 year old, she was incredibly poorly (in DKA), spending a week in intensive care at GOSH before we could take her home and continue to provide her care. She has 5 injections and upward of 7 finger pricks to check her blood sugar levels every day and constant monitoring of carbohydrate in her food intake. When she has any normal childhood illness it causes additional complications and she has ended up back in hospital for what would normally be considered simple stomach bugs due to this. Daisie doesn't really remember a time before Type 1 and as such continues her life as the beautiful, funny, clever and confident little girl that she has become. As she gets older she is beginning to notice that her injections and finger pricks aren't something that all of her friends do and it does sometimes upset her.

We are so proud of her and seeing her doing this run is a great way of showing that she can do whatever she sets her mind to and what anyone else can do. The run also serves to raise money for a charity that was quick to provide us as a family with support and continues to help other familes while funding research for advancement in the treatment, prevention and hopefully one day a cure for this condition.
