Hair Harvest for the Orangutans · 15 April 2016

To mark our 25th Anniversary, we are launching an ambitious challenge to secure the future of a further 8,000 hectares of prime, critical orangutan habitat adjacent to the Lamandau Wildlife Reserve.

Story

Hey!

I've decided to cut my hair short some point in the beginning of May, two weeks from now! I'd be grateful if you left a donation, no matter how small! I've decided to raise money for this particular charity because I'd like to do something positive to help an endangered species. I'd also like to raise awareness on the issue of Palm Oil, and hopefully help others understand how much of an issue this is.

Indonesia’s oil palm plantations alone already cover nine million hectares, 26 million hectares are projected for 2025. Estimates suggest that 98% of rainforest may be destroyed by 2022.

As well as destroying natural habitats for wildlife, it is also pushing local people out of their homes. In Indonesia alone, where 45 million people live in forests, the palm oil industry is responsible for around 5,000 land and human rights conflicts. If the affected people resist, they are often forcibly displaced. those who stay must deal with the chemicals used on palm oil plantations, which pollute the soil and water, thus making other forms of agriculture impossible.

The OFI (Orangutan Foundation International) works to support the conservation, protection, and understanding of orangutans and their rain forest habitat while caring for ex-captive orangutan orphans as they make their way back into protected rainforest zones. Hopefully by raising money they can continue to help rescue Orangutans and also help educate other people on the matters of Palm oil.

Thanks for visiting this page, and hopefully this will inspire some people to make a difference as well.
