I am raising money for Amnesty International UK by taking part in the Dash to Dubrovnik with Loughborough Rag. 4 friends and I, alongside a convoy of other fundraisers, will be driving over 2000-miles through 12 countries over 8-days finishing up in Dubrovnik and I'll be doing this in a car worth no more than £500 to raise money for this amazing charity! 

Across the globe, Amnesty International UK defend human rights, working to help people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied. Currently Ukraine is one of these locations. As Russia continues its war against them, Amnesty International is exposing violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, and gathering evidence from their researchers on the ground and their Crisis Evidence Lab. 

Right now in the Qatar World Cup they’re fighting for workers rights because workers rights are human rights. There’s been labour abuses on a significant scale and 1000s of un investigated deaths. 

However, many don’t realise human rights issues are closer to home than you think. They are happening right on your doorstep. When 97 people lost their lives in a crush at Hillsborough football ground in 1989, the fans were blamed. The Human Rights Act allowed the families of those who died to reveal the truth, as it enabled the families of those who died to get a proper inquest, one where they could tell their loved ones’ stories and which revealed the truth: that mistakes made by the police and others led to their deaths. Despite the clear benefits for human rights in the UK of the legislation, there have been repeated threats to remove or repeal the act by successive politicians.
